Ahead of the three-year anniversary of Russia’s illegal full-scale war of aggression against Ukraine, the European Parliament Conference of Presidents today adopted a statement of solidarity with Ukraine, negotiated by Liberals and Democrats.
The adoption of the statement coincided with a formal address by Ruslan Stefanchuk, Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, who also met with Valérie Hayer, President of the Renew Europe Group.
Today’s debate in the Parliament on three years of Russia’s full scale war of aggression against Ukraine in the European Parliament comes as the new US administration is expected to provide insights into its strategy for Ukraine in the coming days.
After meeting with Ruslan Stefanchuk, Valérie Hayer, President of Renew Europe, said:
"Ukrainians fighting for their freedom do not tire and we have no right to either. Our thoughts are with displaced families, many living amongst us, who do not know when they can safely return home. We call on the EU and its Member States to increase and speed up the delivery of support and impose further sanctions on the Russian war machine."
Ahead of expected announcements from US officials about their intentions at the forthcoming Munich Security Conference, PresidentValérie Hayer said:
"A comprehensive, just, and lasting peace must be based on the Ukrainian peace formula. No decisions or negotiations on the future of Ukraine can be taken without the consent of the Ukrainian people and the involvement of the European Union. As Europeans, we must be prepared to step up and take full responsibility for our continent’s security."
