In March 2018, the European Parliament adopted its own-initiative resolution on gender equality in trade agreements.
In this resolution, the EP advocated for a more active role for gender equality in the European Union’s trade agreements. It also stressed the need for enforceability of trade and sustainable development (TSD) chapters, and the close monitoring of violations that occur within the framework of a trade agreement. Furthermore, the resolution highlighted the need for the collection of more gender-disaggregated data on the impact of trade on women.
