The Covid-19 pandemic will not only have long-lasting severe effects on the cultural and creative industries, which are strategic sectors for Europe’s citizens and its economy, but also on cultural diversity in Europe, the Renew Europe Group in the European Parliament has warned. It is against this backdrop that Renew Europe launches today its proposals for a comprehensive European cultural recovery plan. It incorporates, inter alia, the need for sufficient and easily accessible financial assistance for the sector, proposes concrete steps to sustainably revive Europe’s tourism and to thrive in the digital single market, and calls for a comprehensive and ambitious European Cultural Policy that reflects the significant role that culture plays for our European identity.

La pandémie de Covid-19 aura non seulement des effets graves et durables sur les industries culturelles et créatives, qui sont des secteurs stratégiques pour les citoyens européens et leur économie, mais aussi sur la diversité culturelle en Europe, a averti le groupe Renew Europe au Parlement européen. C'est dans ce contexte que Renew Europe lance aujourd'hui ses propositions pour un plan européen global de relance de la culture. Il intègre, entre autres, la nécessité d'une aide financière suffisante et facilement accessible pour le secteur, propose des mesures concrètes pour relancer durablement le tourisme en Europe et pour prospérer dans le marché unique numérique, et appelle à une politique culturelle européenne globale et ambitieuse qui reflète le rôle important que la culture joue pour notre identité européenne.
