On the eve of the third anniversary of Russia's illegal full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Valérie Hayer, President of the Renew Europe Group in the European Parliament, has reiterated the group's steadfast commitment to supporting Ukraine in its fight for sovereignty and democracy.
Reflecting on the sombre anniversary, President Hayer stated:
"Ukrainians fighting for their freedom do not tire, and we have no right to either. Donald Trump might wish to abandon Ukraine, but Europe will not. European countries must get into first gear, with a massive rearmament and the development of steadfast security guarantees for Ukraine's freedom. We owe this first and foremost to the Ukrainian refugees living amongst us, to those murdered and raped by Russian forces. Ukraine's future is more than ever a future in EU and NATO."
Commenting on ongoing negotiations, Valérie Hayer said:
"A comprehensive, just, and lasting peace must be based on the Ukrainian peace formula. No decisions or negotiations on the future of Ukraine can be taken without the consent and the involvement of the Ukrainian people and the involvement of the European Union."
As the conflict enters its fourth year, Renew Europe remains resolute in its support for Ukraine, standing firm against aggression and upholding the principles of democracy and sovereignty that unite European countries.
Renew Europe MEP, Petras Auštrevičius (Lithuanian Liberal Movement), standing shadow rapporteur on Ukraine, added:
“Thousands of brave Ukrainians paid the ultimate price to defend the sovereignty and freedom of their country. I would like to pay my deepest respect to their memory and thank the brave people of Ukraine for their loyalty in the struggle for freedom and democracy. We will not allow their sacrifices to be in vain. Peace cannot be dictated and it cannot benefit the aggressor. Europe will continue to stand by Ukraine in all steps leading to victory and future negotiations on Ukraine's terms.”
