The Renew Europe Group in the European Parliament denounces North Korea for its military support to Russia, which further exacerbates the conflict and urges the international community to take swift and decisive action to address this alarming escalation.
The EU must take decisive action to sanction individuals and entities involved in the transfer of troops and arms to Russia, as well as intermediaries facilitating these transactions.
We also strongly condemn China’s supply of dual-use goods and military items to Russia and call on Beijing to end all military or dual-use assistance to Russia and its war of aggression against Ukraine.
In a resolution on the EU’s unwavering support to Ukraine - particularly in light of the threat posed by increasing military cooperation between North Korea and Russia - approved by the plenary today, our political group also called on the European Commission to propose additional measures to bolster the Ukrainian economy by providing further financial support and facilitating investment opportunities.
Renew Europe MEP, Petras Auštrevičius (Lithuanian Liberal Movement), standing shadow rapporteur on Ukraine, who led the negotiations on the resolution, said:
“In response to Russia's expansion of the Axis of Evil's circle of allies by making full use of North Korean military units, we must continue to mobilize financial and military support for Ukraine without any restrictions on the use of weapons. We must also provide Ukraine with security guarantees from Western security organisations, thereby ensuring Ukraine's future membership in NATO. Finally, we must strengthen the global sanctions regime against Russia and its allies, including those who help evade sanctions.”
