Renew Europe is deeply concerned by the law passed by Bulgaria to ban so-called LGBTI 'propaganda' in schools.

We regret the decision of the President of Bulgaria to sign it and call on the European Commission to urgently investigate the compatibility of the law with EU laws and values.

Valérie Hayer, President of Renew Europe said today:

"Renew Europe strongly condemns the enactment of this law, which is reminiscent of regressive attacks on LGBTI rights in Russia and Hungary."

"The European Parliament and the European Commission must now act to hold the law to account. We will not tolerate targeted attacks on groups in society based on sexual orientation. In our European Union, tolerance must triumph over exclusion and hate."
