Europe’s farmers are struggling. Input prices are high, prices for products are low, incomes are insufficient. The overall regulatory and administrative burden is increasing, while geopolitical shocks and unfair competition from third countries are further increasing the pressure.

To answer farmers’ concerns and allow them to fully play the irreplaceable role they have in our societies, Renew Europe is launching an Action plan for sustainable, competitive and fairly rewarded EU agriculture.

The Action plan lays out a number of short-term measures to help farmers cope with shocks from global trade, increasing energy prices and the administrative burden. It also points the way forward on some areas of longer-term concern, e.g. the capacity of the current Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) to respond to climate change and market crises, the fair distribution of added value within the food supply chain and the EU's efforts to solve trade disputes with third countries. With new sources of income like carbon farming and innovative tools to protect healthy soils, we can support smaller agricultural businesses make the transition to a more sustainable model.

“We need to understand the urgency of alleviating the burden on our farmers and businesses”, says MEP Ulrike Müller (Freie Wähler, Germany), "That should be the basis of the constructive dialogue we need with the farming sector and regional stakeholders. With this action plan, Renew Europe is committed to bringing forward concrete solutions for our farmers.”
