During today’s plenary debate on the recent developments concerning the war in the Gaza Strip and the need to reach a ceasefire, the Renew Europe Group in the European Parliament made a strong call on Israel to comply with the rulings of the International Court of Justice.
The current situation in the Gaza Strip is extremely alarming and there is a vital need for more humanitarian aid to be urgently delivered to Gaza's population by opening corridors, as all parties must respect international humanitarian law.
Speaking earlier in the hemicycle, MEP Hilde Vautmans (Open Vld, Belgium), Renew Europe Group’s coordinator in the Foreign Affairs Committee, said:
“Europe has finally found a common voice in this horrible conflict, in pleading for a ceasefire, for urgent and massive humanitarian support to Gaza, for the unconditional release of all hostages held by the terrorist organization Hamas. And for the prevention of even more civilian casualties.
We must firmly oppose Netanyahu from launching an invasion of Rafah, the last refuge of more than one and a half million Palestinians, the majority of whom are children. Now, as Team Europe, we must use all our diplomatic resources and influence to translate our words into action. Then we will prove ourselves as a real geopolitical Union.”
