The Renew Europe group today supported a move to add a debate on the rule of law in Spain to the agenda of the European Parliament plenary session in Strasbourg scheduled for next week, with the participation of the Council and the European Commission. A meeting of the Conference of Presidents of the European Parliament agreed to add a debate entitled “threats to rule of law as a consequence of the governmental agreement in Spain”.

MEP Adrián Vázquez Lázara, Chair of the European Parliament’s Legal Affairs Committee and the leader of the Spanish Delegation Ciudadanos in the European Parliament, said:

“The threats to the Rule of Law hit the core of European values. We have seen it in other countries such as Poland or Hungary. We must speak up before it is too late, and we will. Renew Europe will remain the main voice standing by the defense of the Rule of Law, as it always has. Regardless of where its threats comes from.”
