The European Parliament will approve today, through an urgent procedure, to allow EU countries to reduce or eliminate the Value-Added-Tax (VAT) rate on COVID-19 vaccines and related testing devices until 2022. The MEPs from the main political Groups in the Parliament, including Renew Europe, will vote to amend the Council directive on the common system of VAT.
Luis Garicano MEP, Vice-president of Renew Europe and Coordinator for Renew Europe on the ECON Committee said;" No effort should be spared to ensure that vaccination is fast and can reach every single citizen in the European Union. This means keeping costs low, ensuring fast distribution, and coordinating all public authorities."
"Green light from the Parliament on reduced VAT for vaccines and COVID test materials ! Low VAT rates will ensure high vaccination rates. This is the European Health Union in action. " said Stéphanie Yon-Courtin MEP, Renew Europe shadow rapporteur on the file and Vice-president of the Economic affairs committee (ECON).
