Today, group leaders of Renew Europe, EPP, S&D, Greens and GUE sent a letter to EU leaders ahead of the European Council meeting of 19 June. The European Parliament «will not compromise on the future of the European Union. We call on the European Council to do the same and match political statements with sufficient budgetary means (...) We need to leave the future generation of Europeans a resilient EU, sustainably thriving and leaving no one behind », they write.
Please find attached the letter.
Commenting on the initiative ahead of the European Council summit, President of the Renew Europe Group, Dacian CIOLOȘ, said:
“We need the European Council to take decisive step forward, because the recovery of our continent depends on it. Many lives have been lost to the pandemic - we have a duty to ensure we do not now lose a generation to unemployment and poverty and all of the harmful consequences that stem from these. As the directly elected representatives of European citizens, we are united and determined to secure a brighter, transformative future for the people we represent.’
‘We must bestow to future generations of Europeans a resilient, sustainably thriving EU, which leaves no one behind’.
