Renew Europe Group received today Juan Guaidó, legitimate interim president of Venezuela to the European Parliament in Brussels.
During his visit, Guaidó was welcomed by Renew Europe President Dacian Cioloș (RO, Plus), Vice-President of the European Parliament Dita Charanzová (ANO, CZ) and Renew Europe Vice-President Luis Garicano (ES, Cs).
Renew Europe Group, a firm supporter of Guaidó, will invite him to address all the Members in a upcoming Plenary session and will push for his right to allow him to address in any of the Parliaments in the EU Member States.
After his visit, Renew Europe Group President Dacian Cioloș, said:
“Given the dangerous political and social situation in Venezuela, it is vital that we give Mr Guaidó the possibility to address the whole European Parliament on this matter. I will personally ask the Conference of Presidents of the European Parliament to invite him to the next plenary session in Strasbourg, in his capacity of interim President of Venezuela. Renew Europe stands united behind Mr Guaidó and the Venezuelan people”.
European Parliament’s Vice-President Dita Charanzová said:
"Our message today is clear: We stand with President Juan Guaidó and the Venezuelan people.
The support of the international community is more important now than ever. The Parliament will approve a new resolution next month on Venezuela. The council must approve the extension of targeted sanctions towards the regime immediately."
Luis Garicano, Vice-President of Renew Europe, said:
"We are very happy to receive President Guaidó at the European Parliament as per the invitation of the Renew Europe Group, but we regret that Spain's Prime Minister Sánchez has not done the same. We will make a request to allow him speaking in Plenary in the European Parliament.
We will do everything possible to make sure his cause receives the support of all Europeans and receives the attention he deserves."
Stéphane Séjourné, Chair of the Delegation for relations with Mercosur, said:
"Hosting today, at the European Parliament, the legitimate President of Venezuela Juan Guaidó, is a strong political signal. An even stronger signal as it comes only a few days after a new resolution on the Venezuelan crisis has been adopted by a large majority of MEPs. The EU stands ready to fully support Venezuela in maintaining fundamental values of democracy and human rights."
Guaidó also offered a press conference chaired by Ms. Charanzová, MEP Jordi Cañas (ES, Cs) and Members of other Groups supporting his role as legitimate interim President of Venezuela.
