ALDE and Renaissance call on Council to propose Margrethe Vestager as Commission President

Today the delegation leaders of the new Group discussed the Commission Presidency. The Members expressed their conviction that it is in the interest of the European Union at large that it does not take too long before a compromise on the top posts has been reached.

Since President Tusk is striving for gender balance in the composition of the candidates he is going to propose, the candidacy of Vestager for the Commission top position would be a way out of the current stalemate. She has the experience, the vision, the competence and the right gender. The Members believe it would be a failure to miss this historic moment that offers a great opportunity to select a woman at the helm of the European Commission.
