New developments in e-commerce
How to better protect consumers and foster IPR protection online (Location: room ASP 1E2; Brussels)
Online commerce has been growing rapidly in recent years, a trend that has been further catalysed by the COVID-19 pandemic. During the pandemic, e-commerce has become the main channel for illicit medical products, including fake and substandard ones, such as test kits and other items related to combating COVID-19.
This event seeks to highlight this new trend and its impact on consumers and the European Single Market whilst exploring sustainable solutions. It will examine the significance the recently agreed DSA will have for the issues.
The EUIPO has published a number of important studies on protecting IPR online which analyse the impact of trade in fake goods, including the impact on consumers and businesses, and which aim at fostering innovation, protecting consumers and paving the way the way for the creation of new start-ups across Europe.
Finally, the seminar sets out to examine the improvements, we can expect from the soon-to-be adopted review of the current Product Safety Directive, where Dita Charanzova is leading the negotiations.
