Maximizing the Potential of Offshore Energy and Its Role in Reaching 2030 and 2050 Climate Targets
The Offshore Renewable Energy Strategy is one of the key driving elements of the green transition in Europe, providing clean energy not only within the energy system and to final consumers, but also in the shape of hydrogen and power-to-x, thereby combating GHG emissions in industry and transport.
The Offshore Renewable Energy Strategy is one of the key driving elements of the green transition in Europe, providing clean energy not only within the energy system and to final consumers, but also in the shape of hydrogen and power-to-x, thereby combating GHG emissions in industry and transport. This calls for major investments in the buildout of renewable energy and the infrastructure needed to facilitate it and support it. This enormous task however, comes with its own set of challenges.
In order to explore how the different, relevant pieces of energy legislation can reinforce each other with regards to reaching our 2030 and 2050 climate goals, we bring together views from the Renew Europe Rapporteurs on the TEN-E Regulation, Hydrogen, Energy System Integration and Offshore Strategies. Thereby, we hope to break down the legislative silos, which may otherwise hinder faster progress of the green transition.
This webinar seeks to highlight the offshore potential of the European Union, from the Baltic and North Seas, to the Mediterranean and Black Sea, in order to ensure, that all parts of Europe stand to benefit from a successful buildout of sea-based renewable energy.
The event seeks to provide answers to the following questions:
- What legislative initiatives are needed to enable the necessary, major buildout of 60-80-GW offshore energy by 2030, and around 450GW by 2050?
- What is the potential of offshore energy in the Mediterranean and Black Seas?
- How can a revised TEN-E Regulation and the various energy strategies reinforce each other?
- How can the EU improve and further develop the legislative framework needed, in order to ensure optimal energy markets and transmission from offshore windfarms to mainland Europe?
- How can offshore renewable energies contribute to sustainable production and distribution of green hydrogen?
