Renew Europe condemns PM Janša's move to interfere the process of appointing EPPO prosecutors

In a debate in the European Parliament today, Renew Europe expresses its concerns regarding the Slovenian government's process of appointing its national prosecutors to the European Public Prosecutor's Office (EPPO).
The office, which will protect the EU's financial interests by combating white-collar crime, went operational on 1 June. Still, out of the 22 participating countries, only Slovenia lacks in fulfilling its commitments in appointing its prosecutors.
Dacian Cioloş, President of Renew Europe, says:
“The refusal of the Prime Minister Janez Janša to acknowledge the countries' appointment of prosecutors is unacceptable and undermines EPPO as well as the trust in the management of EU funds in Slovenia. This is particularly worrying as the country soon will take over the presidency of the European Council. The Slovenian government must urgently appoint their prosecutors without any political interference.”
Klemen Grošelj, Member of Renew Europe and the Slovenian party Lista Marjana Šarca, adds:
“The legally questionable handling of PM Janez Janša's government does not only undermine the EPPO itself, but also the common European fight against all forms of crime that are most damaging to our societies. This decision represents an additional blow to the rule of law in Slovenia, which has been systematically and intentionally eroded during the rule of the current Slovenian government led by PM Janez Janša”.
